to wire hazards into a bec can you just use a hazard switch and connect to the indicator relay, or do you need to use a separate flasher unit?

i have used a seperate flasher unit on mine

I used a separate relay just makes things a bit simpler, is possible with one though I just had the indicators making the hazard warning light flash and couldn't be bothered to work out why so just chucked a flasher relay I had laying around.

You should really use a separate flasher unit. With Diodes it can be done though
