Can you help me put some approximate figures, or correct my approximate figures for the weight of the following components?
Bike engine~ 90kg with headers and carbs and associated gubbins
Diff ~ 25kg
Prop shaft ~ 5-10kg?
Electric Reverse kit ~ 3-5kg?
Totalling, all in, about 125kg +??

is that all the electric reverse weighs?
Wasnt ther a guy on here with a bike engined kit said he took his off after sva and it was 35 kilo??
Electric reverse, 35kg?! what are people putting on there?! But OK, fair enough, I'm gathering data, not complaining!
yes it was the dude with the Spire that took it off after IVA.
The starter alone has got to be 5-6Kg?
Reckon my starter on the tin top must weigh about 2-3kg?
A lot depends on the type of bike engine too...
Yup, that's why I'm looking for data to fill in my ranges I guess, I'm trying to identify exactly how much extra weight I'd be
looking at carrying if I went CEC, since there's a vast difference between all possible packages but car engine weights are slightly easier to
come by. If the reverse is ~35kg you're heading towards not THAT much in it with a heavy bike engine.

the 35 kg reverse was including an extra battery IIRC

It was a long time agop but if I remeber correctly, I weighed a Freelander diff and it came in at 16kg and the Sierra diff was 20kg.
A ZX10R engine, minus the headers, is under 70kg.

As far as I know, a bike engine weighs about the same as a CEC gearbox, so deduct the car engine weight and add the reverse gear and engine cradle weight, that shouldn't be far off.
the all up weight of my race car with a blade engine, 15L of fuel, full cage and me sat in it comes in at 570Kgs. I am currently working on getting that down a little more as well.

Carbed 919 Blade engine/ box 55kg's
Now that IS light!
Ive never weighed one but that's what a courier told me it was, unlikely they would under weigh it as it was priced accordingly!
have a chat with Andy Bates or Yorkshire engines as they will both know how heavey the engines are. One thing I have found is that the newer the engine the lighter they get, compaired to the previous model.
Well I'm chuffed with mine then, good old zetec and type 9, the car was 525kg at SVA, since then ali bellhousing and 4 pot calipers has shaved
12kg off.
Then I go and spoil it by getting in

Fireblade=67Kg
Zetec with type 9=180Kg
Source Westfield World Tech pages
westfield RGB 6kg
5vy R1 with box 62kg apparently
Heres the post on the electric reverse - it was 24kg saved of which 13 was the battery - So 11kg as long as you only use it with the engine running
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=153182
Diffs 16-20kg
Drive shaft about right
Engine weights usually 75- 85 kg inc all the ancillaries.
So all up 80+10+18+11 (say)=120kg.
Zetec and type 9 is 180 kg+driveshaft+diff= 208kg all in
Duratec is 18kg lighter than a zetec so 190kg all in
A sylva riot with 1.6 ford engine = 470kg, with an R1 = 400kg acording to their web site.
I also saw some figures for MNRs one a zetec powered and one a busa and there was about 80kg weight difference there.

Hugh
