zx10r engine vs r1

I'm always mincing through ebay etc for any interesting engines etc and have come across a couple of 2004 -2006 zx10r motors and they seem pretty good value, Was just wondering how they perform up against a 5vy R1 motor. Granted the R1 motors seem the most popular for Becs. Are there any issues around using a kwak motor in a Bec? Do they need dry sumping? Gearboxes ok?

do a search on here. I think if you have a front engined rear drive layout then you will need a 3.14 diff, which are more tricky to come by than some.

Other than that (from what I have seen) these are great engines. Very light and small.

I have a bmw 3.45 diff in my chassis which seems a fairly good ratio for a bec unless the gearing is very different in the zx10?

The gearing IS very different. You need something 3.14 (Sierra) or 3.21 (Freelander) for it to make any sense.

Ah ok the zx10 is off the list then! The diff is staying put. Great info as always.

Wouldnt write the zx10r off, i had one in my indy with a 3.38 sierra diff and it was fine, topped out at 125mph ( on a rolling road )which i think is plenty fast enough in a 7 type car, and with a power commander and remap at daytuner it was 146.2 bhp at the wheels. as said its a very light engine as well.i never had any problems with mine at all, the only change i made was some barnett clutch spring.
