Zx12 A2 what's it worth??
Yazza54 - 2/5/11 at 04:45 PM

I have come across a RGB car fitted with a zx12 A2 injection engine, circa 2005 model engine. I'm interested in the car but to run in the class I want to I'd need to sell the zx12 motor and buy/install a late 1000cc blade or zx10.

The engine was recently rebuilt and won class A then not used for some time, it's dry sumped with power commander but otherwise standard, making in the region of 185hp with ram air I'm told.

So.. What's the engine package worth to someone with all looms, ecu, power commander etc and will anyone want it???

I don't think he will want to sell the car as a roller less engine so this may be the only feasible way of doing it with this particular car.

Thanks
Ryan

someone will defo want it at the right price!

Hmmmmm depends what the right price is. Otherwise it'll be too costly to make the car the spec I need.

If the engine is 2005, it's a B4 and not an A2. I reckon it'd be worth about £1,600 without the PC but I haven't been in the market for a while so not sure what they're currently selling for. Check with Malc at Yorkshire Engines.

My mistake it's 2001 I think, it's the injection model though. Car was built in 05 thought the engine was from then too.

Engine is an A2 then.... Probably worth about £1,200 without the PC.

A boggo will make £1200 all day long... a dry-sumped one has to be worth a couple of hundred quid more.

I'd probably be tempted to keep the dry sump setup. For what I'd get back it'd make more sense to use it on a new motor.

Scratch that I've just looked it up on the pace website. Looks a rather complicated system bespoke to the zx12.

Surely in the region of £1600 with the dry sump etc it's a bargain hayabusa alternative??

scootz - 2/5/11 at 07:36 PM

That's the number I was thinking if...

Sorry, I hadn't spotted that it was dry sumped. I should really pay more attention when reading. I'd agree with £1,600

Might be worth a punt then

twybrow - 3/5/11 at 07:57 AM

Remember, it has been used and abused (!?) in a race car, so that will affect the price.... Unless that is it has had a full rebuild?

Yazza54 - 3/5/11 at 08:29 AM

I'm told it was refreshed before the last race, won the championship then he had kids or something tedious like that and didn't use it again

Yazza54 - 3/5/11 at 08:32 AM

The pace dry sump system must have cost a small fortune on it's own

I'd like to think that every bike-engine was used and abused in its previous (and intended) life!

Oh of course - but not in a car...! It would indicate potentail wear to the driveline (clutch and gearbox) IMHO. But I guess that depends on how mechanicaly sympathetic the owner is, and just what a 'refresh' involved!
