1998 Blade rev bouncing at 3k (Part 2)
YQUSTA - 22/5/11 at 10:23 PM

Following on from this thread we have tried all the ideas but to no avail.

When we took the jets out we did find some crud in 1 and cleaned all the jets ect with carb cleaner and all looked nice and clean afterwards.

Anyone with any other ideas they would be very welcome.

Edit: also took the tps off and checked it we got resistance change so guess this is OK.

What did you replace wrt the pickup and ECU? where you say there was some sign of arcing?

Can I suggest you check regulator connectors and also charging voltage

r1_pete: there was a wire that was for the pick up which appeared to have arching at the connector to the ecu so I replaced the wire and ECU.

Took out the plugs today and found what looks like oil around the thread and shoulder, also the plugs were sooty and black.

Did a quick compression test with closed throttle and got 100-105 psi on all 4 cylinders.

cleaned the plugs and tested.

The engine was better but the revs now stutter at 2k but not the bouncing at 3k like before. Only ran it for1 min then removed a plug and the oil had returned.

not sure were the oil is comming from but see no obvious signs.

ReMan: do you know what the charging voltage should be?

Thanks for all the ideas

Forgive me if I'm teaching you to suck eggs but have you tried balancing the carbs now? It's just that after a winter sitting mine developed a stutter at 1500-2000rpm and I've just sorted it I think by balancing. Hope it helps.

Approx 14.4V

mistergrumpy: Yes I have balanced the carbs only 1 was a little out made no difference.

Thanks ReMan I will check the charging voltage.
