Hi,
If you are building in Spain and plan to have Spanish reg, the best option should be to approve it here (SVA). Approving and registering in the UK
then importing to Spain is not strightforward, although it's true that building the car for compliance with Spanish SVA rules can be very
difficult as well, especially if you don't have a copy of such rules Here, SVA is done at INTA for around 1000 euros. I'm not sure about
your Spanish but if you are fluent go to my page
http://usuarios.tiscali.es/alez/polvorilla.htm
I've been putting some info relevant to having one of these registered in Spain, as I learn.
I don't know anyone who has done it before. I know a guy who is building now, he lives in Tenerife or something. He is serious about the project,
is using a straight 6 BMW engine, and will be building a very nice bodywork (he is a specialist in that).
Whereabouts do you live? The INTA (the place where you would take the car to for SVA) is here in Madrid. There's another place in the south of
Spain but I've been told it's something like 4x as expensive. Those would be the 2 options in the country.
Cheers,
Alex
Hi.
I'm in Portugal and we are in a even worst situation as we don't have the equivalent to the UK's SVA. Our best shot is SVAing in UK and
bring it back to Portugal (easy to legalize then), but we in Portugal also think that legalizing in Spain could be feasible. How is your experience
with it?
Joćo Caldeira
Hi Joao,
No experience I'm afraid In theory it should be easy, but I've not done it. Also I'm finding that there's a lot of difference
between theory and practice, basically because this proccess is not something that a lot of people go through here in Spain. As a consequence,
everything is more difficult than it should by law.
BTW SVA here costs around 1000 euro or 670 pounds, how does that compare to SVA in the UK? Unfortunately there is only ONE place in the country where
you can do it, not a lot of options if you get into trouble due to something absurd (springs to mind an episode a couple of days ago, where they
refused to approve one inspection due to my car not having a reverse light for God's sake it doesn't have a f-king reverse in the
gearbox!!!!).
Best luck,
Alex
