Reassembled zzr gearbox
Lightning - 25/9/11 at 06:55 PM

Ok, Ive replaced the output top gear as this has the dogs into 2nd (which was jumping out). Also replaced the forks for that gear as there was signs of wear.
I just require some reassurance or indeed putting right.
I believe you cant select 2nd from neutral without the output shaft spinning ie in motion on the Kawasaki. Is that correct?

If so i'm not absolutely sure how that is acheived. Is it because there are steel balls under output 3rd gear which prevent the seelctor drum turning further to the second gear position. The balls in the absence of centripal force by the shaft, enter the gear allowing it to pass along the splines when spinning.

oh btw .The manual says that the selector drum and forks have to removed after splitting the crankcase, this is rubbish. Access can be gained via the oil pan after removing the oil pump.

On my zx9r, without the engine running only neutral and first are selectible. Would have thought that yours would be similar.
