zx9 gearshift and other stuff...

hello all. I was wondering how you connect the actual shifter mechanism to the grooved shaft on the engine? i was looking on ebay for a gear shift, cos i assumed the foot pedal went straight onto the splined shaft, but it looks like there is some gubbins involved. So what should i be looking for?

also, with the wiring side of things, i was wondering about what you use instead of a junction box. This is mostly filled with fuses but also there are a few diodes, specifically in the neutral switch circuit and others. Are the diodes important?

and finally, jasper mentioned a resistor that you need to add somewhere, maybe the sidestand earth? cant quite recall the details. Anyone know why you need this anyway?!

Come on Joel, pay attention at the back!i
1- The splined shaft has a short drop link fitted to it (standard bike issue)
2-the diodes are not required, any old fuse box will do.
3- you need a 100ohm resistor between the grey wire from the brain to 12v live.

BTW - the gear shift lever was a standard dirt bike one.

no alan, its still not quite finished. Tonight, im going to glue some more carpet to the interior, strip the front end and paint it, and then worry about dash radiuses. I need to get some new track rod ends, a roll bar and then do some fibreglassing. Not all tonight then i suppose! Cant be too long now!

Mac#1 Motorsports sell the little things that fasten to the splined shaft, you will need to get a lever arm welded to it though.
