R1 engine for sale
fuzzy1 - 18/8/04 at 05:51 PM

Hi,

While searching for prices for R1 engines I was contacted today by M1 Motorcycles.
They have a R1 engine and running gear, but no clocks. 4800miles, year 99 asking prices £1400+vat.
Tel no. 01302 391122.

I'm not in a position to buy at the moment so thought I'd post this if anyone is interested.

While I'm on can anyone answer a couple of questions.

1 Is this an average price for an R1 engine.
2 Is it best to use the R1 clocks, or can I use any sort easily.
3 I'm interested in building an MK GTR, is anyone out there building one at present got any photos.

Cheers,

Fuzzy1
.

Should they charge VAT for a USED engine?

Price sounds about right though, as long as they dont charge VAT!

i think the price is steep myself, though i wont pretend to be an expert. Ive seen many sell for under a grand, and a 99 engine isnt even very new. Unless there is some advantage to using a 99 engine i cant see it being worth this much. And ditto the vat, it was already paid when new, so in my opinion they wont pay the VAT to the IR.

one on ebay, no carbs:

1. IMO , that is well over the odds...
I usually try to sell them around 800ish..

however, just lately I'm having a slow time locating R1's at the right price...
but if you were to be around the 1000 mark you could usually get one quickly.

2. stick with the R1 clocks...that way you get your fault codes via the tacho

3. anybody know ?

cheers
Colin

this link too, of completed items. If you dig a little and check feedback, some of these engines are confirmed sales.

Thanks for the information. The phone line was pretty bad during the conversation but I am sure he said plus VAT. I'd spoken to Pitstop 90 last week and they where quoting £1000 for a 99 carb engine with 4500 miles which seems to be more reasonable.
How much is a set of clocks likely to cost as they seem not to come with the engine. Am I better off looking for a carb engine or injection?

Cheers,

Fuzzy1

Better off with a carbed engine purely on a cost basis and from an electrics perspective too!

up to 150 for clocks, make sure your engine isnt just that, an engine! you need the CDI and wiring harness to make life easier.

complete with gear for £1250? It's an injection but the price is better than the one you were looking at. 2,500 miles 03 bike.

Pete...
you could have another and put 2 in it...........

I think it's going to be mad enough with a single engine and it'll be lower tax.
