Bike Engine Prices
ashg - 8/2/12 at 10:51 AM

I have acquired a new project and am seriously considering big bike engine power for it, purely because i dont think i can get a car engine in that will easily make the kind of power i want.

What sort of money should i be looking at spending on something like a zx1400r or a Busa engine. i looked at r1 engines but am not sure if they are man enough to shift something that will weigh 600-700kg at a scary pace.

are there any other bike engines that make good power that i should be considering. this is a big jump for me as i am more into turbo car engines.

I picked up a Hayabusa with all ancillaries for £1200 on eBay but I was lucky with a no reserve auction that ended on mother's day (when no one was online to bid). Certainly do not pay more than £2000, there are two engines on eBay right now for less than that, but if you are patient and only bid to your limit, I think you could get one for a little as £1500.

You can also get complete bikes for as low as £2500 and can probably recoup £800 to £1000 by selling off the bits you don't need. The advantage of this is that you can run the engine or even ride the bike before buying.

The zx12r's are always a good option, on par with the busa engines, but cheaper

I paid 2 k for a zx 14 without any aux with it, there not cheap but powerfull as Paul said though I would also go zx12 as cheap and as powerful as the others,

mileage is too high on that.

there doesn't seem to be a lot that is getting me excited on the bay. think i will give it a couple of months looking, not in a rush as i need to finish the exocet then finish building my new workshop then rebody the roadster then im onto the bike powered project that im picking up on the weekend

Hi Ash

Have you got the body from Jim yet?

What colour did you go for?

Look up Suncoast Cycles on the west coast of Florida, north of St.Pete.( When I find the contact details, I'll put them up.) He sells engines to a well known bike engine specialist over here regularly, from my conversation with him before Christmas. Change the £ for Dollar signs, and subtract a bit for price.

The best bit about yank delivered bike ecu's, is that they have none of the anti theft stuff to contend with.

Cheers,
Nev.

Hi,

I have a zx12 engine for sale - only needs a stator.

It is partially stripped, and I was going to rebuild and sell for best part of £1k.

I will sell in its current state for £600 to a locoster to save me the effort.

A stator is easily available for between £60-£100, saving you enough to hopefully make it worth considering.

U2U me.

Hi,
I might be interested as I already have one and I’m looking to do two projects side by side, so a second zx12 might be useful.

Basically what history do you have/know?

Also what ancillaries are with the engine; loom, clocks ecu, key etc?

Cheers in advance for any info you can give

When I was looking into a bike engine I found this too, there's a decent profit in it too!!!

i still think circa 700 kgs is heavy for a bike motor/box/clutch. a lot of bike powered 7's come in at under 500kgs and you can tell a massive difference when 2 up! and thats with an 80kg passenger.
what sort of project is it mate? mid engined, front engined, 7, or other. may shed some light on the situation

cheers for the offer and i am sure it will turn out to be a good deal for somebody but i dont fancy putting it back together to be totally honest.

the more and more i look the more sense its making to buy a whole bike.

think i have pretty much decided the plan of action. buy a busa and ride it for the summer then break it when the weather turns. in the mean time i will look out for completely unsalvageable wrecked busa engine to use for mocking up to be ready for a winter transplant.

Good plan, just make sure you buy in the next 4 weeks before prices go up again.
