200 Cell cat for BEC ok for emissions!?
Johneturbo - 2/3/12 at 10:31 AM

As above, i've come across http://www.magnaflowstainlesssteelexhausts.com/91004-universal-cat-51mm-id.html
as i need a 2" inlet/outlet.

Would a 200 cell get the emissions down for a MOT test?

The one i bought of ebay was a 400 cell but the inlet/outlet were different sizes so sending it back! as without welding it i won't get it to fit

Hijack on this

My TT was made in 1994, so just catches the emmisions but has the highest limit.

Early CAT's are I am lead to believe quite restrictive so what is the cell density all about, do I want the lowest cell count in a large container to get the best performance?

Cheers Mark

Lowest cell count would be better for performance i guess, but how low do you go, there are 100 cell counts available but would it pass emissions :/

my blackbird turbo carbed had a 200 cell and passed emmissions in the end ok, 2 attempts though,

i have a 2.5" outlet one though.

I passed SVA with a 200cpi cat on my R1.

Thats good to know guys

The more i look into it 200 cell is normal for most cars.

with the engine being injection and being able to mess about via the PC5 i should get it to where it needs to be

I think the critical thing is making sure they are freaking hot for the test

Pretty sure mine's a 200 cell and I just passed IVA yesterday. Yes, it needs to be very hot - not difficult when you're running it at 3k rpm for quite a while in the bay!

I found the biggest difficulty was maintaining steady fast idle - the readings on the meter fluctuate around a lot with very minor variations in throttle. In the end mine was CO 0.03, HC 115 and lambda 1.02. I ended up with the Power Commander set to -27 on the relevant bits of the map.
