I need to remove the gearbox from the Fireblade engine as it looks like fourth is knackered. I assume you need to split the crankcase to remove it and if so I am guessing you need to remove the timing chain? I don't like mucking about with timing chains because if it slips out of place one tooth the engine is cactus. Anyone have any pics or a guide to removal?
somewhere on this site is a link to a download for a manual. that should tell you what you need to know
You don't touch the top end/timing.
Simple version is remove the covers and clutch turn it upside down
take off the lower crankcase half and pull out the gearshafts and selectors.
It really is'nt that bad once out of the car a few hours work no more
Which engine is it ?
I've got some manuals on disc I could copy for you.
Thanks guys. It's a 1998 919. I found the manual. It looks like the only thing you have to remove to do with the timing chain is remove the plastic guide which is no biggie.
