Hi guys.
I currently have an Escort 3.54 diff in my BEC and would like to ditch it for a lighter one. I'm not sure exactly what the Escort diff weighs but
it seems way too heavy for a BEC. What other options are there without a huge amount of stuffing about to change it over?
id imagine an escort diff in a live axle setup is about as light as you will get.
irs cars with 7" or 7.5" ford diffs are way heavier.
generally the problem is ratios on the live axle not been long enough!
Unless you go IRS or Dedion which are both a lot of faffing about you are a bit stuck.
All you can do is pop down the breakers and have a scavenge but light cars with RWD as donors must be a bit thin on the ground these days,
You being located in Australia I would have thought that you would consider an Escort axle as lightweight compared to the usual Aussie V8's...
I suppose you could use something like a Suzuk 1.3i van rear axle but the gear ratio may not be optimal for a BEC.
I suspect that you are unlikely to find a Reliant Robin rear axle in Australia.
alfa romeo did a live axle lsd but i would imagine they are heavier than the ford item. and unsure of ratios.
Thanks for the help guys. I might save my pennies and go for a Winters unit at some stage.
What about an aluminium diff housing?
