Tyres for BEC.
DANMAN - 25/4/13 at 09:54 AM

Hi guys.

I was wondering which tyres you would recommend for BEC sprint driving (also need to be road legal)? I was using RA1s on my other Locost before I took it off the road but it is 730kgs and my BEC is around 450kgs at the moment. I was thinking of R888s? Size is 185/60/R13.

Cheers.

I use R888s, and I love them - so sticky (once warm). I use 185/60/r13 on the front, and 205/60/r13 on the rear and have found them to be excellent on road and track.

I would agree with twybrow but if you are sprinting go for the soft compound SG ones. Avon ZZR are supposed to be the bee's knees at the moment but I have no experience of them.

R888s are not a great sprint tyre. The issue is that the best sprint tyres will wear very quickly on the road. Kumho V70 (V700) on soft or supersoft or the Avon ZZR A24 compound are the 1b tyre of choice in sprinting now. R888 SG is a decent tyre but not soft enough for sprinting and too soft for trackdays.

Something like CR500 Avons might be a good compromise as they are soft enough to heat up and have enough grooves to be used in wet weather on the road.

Ideally you need several sets of rims & tyres.
