Hello,



Made a cardboard mockup today , its more or less 220x220x460 - to max the tank quantity Ive gone for a top mounted filler, and a 90deg elbow on the top of the tank.

An internal swirl pot.


And mounting lugs both top and bottom. Its my intention to use one of those marine tank filler senders. The exhaust silencer is close but will be completely wrapped.


1) Will I need baffles seeing as its a vertical type tank ?

2) Do I foam fill it ?

3) How would you secure it ? ie bottom flange with a top strap of some sort.

4) Mesh filter in the swirl pot ?





Any help will be gratefully received

I had one made recently and had tabs welded to it to bolt to the chassis. Is that an option?

I wouldn't expect you would need foam filling or baffles with a tank of that shape especially if it has an internal swirl pot.

It might be worth getting some of the gold foil to put on the tank where it's close to the silencer.

In theory a swirl pot should mean theres no need for baffles, although not sure if that applies with an internal!

You have the tank positioned well enough, I'd make straps, maybe vertical with a horizontal one added so it will act like more of a cage, means possibility of movement should be eliminated!

Just my opinion, I'm sure you'll get plenty, more sound advice, can't advise on the foam, not something I intend to do or know much about!

Nice one, would you sit the tank on bobbins or something to reduce vibe etc.?


There are options to fabricate a chassis mounted base plate or frame for the lugs Ive included.



I like the strap idea, thats given me some ideas.

I would be inclined to stick a horizontal baffle in half an inch off the bottom welded all the way around with a hole to drop the fuel pump into, so a 2" hole in the middle of the baffle.

Sorry, meant horizontal baffle ... My dog throw up so missed editing earlier on, as an external pump then just have a 1" hole in the middle.

If the feed tube is coming up from the bottom then have it proud of the floor, better to come in from the side and dip down to the middle.

Make sure the feed pipe end has a V cut in it, not just left flush as bits of rubbish have a much harder time blocking it.
