We as I have now sorted out the car I thought I would share my plans and progress with you guys. At the moment im waiting for an adittional container
to be placed next to my workshop to house the dom, this should be done tomorrow. The car at the mo is a dominator ts400, it has a gsxr1000 k4 engine,
gearless gearchange, extinguisher setup, dry sump, aeroquipped throughout etc, the list goes on and more will become apparent once I get the car back
to the workshop. here is a few pics:
Sorry for the crude pics but they were taken in my mates garage where there is next to no room. The bodywork is in a bit of a sorry state as it has never been painted but has been in a few battles. I shall be sorting this by smoothing, etching and painting which will do it for this year, over winter I shall be modifying the rear of the body to incorporate a centre intake port together with an inlarged diffuser, then it will be produced in carbon fibre. Some Kevlar will be applied strategically in parts to the body but not the entire shell as weight is a very important factor to this build.
As I had the spoiler off I was very surprised at the weight of it, seemed a tad heavy for what it was
So I thought I would replicate this in Carbon Fibre, it will still be the same and also adjustable, I am going to make 2 versions, one the same as in
the pic and another with about 30% extra length. The spoilers will be simple and easy to swop via 4 bolts. The rose jointed fixtures will be staying
metal for now but depending on the final weight may be exchanged for composite jobbies.
Anyway progress so far on Dom's diet.
Standard spoiler
Started dismantling the spoiler ready to be prepped for moulding
here you can see the rose jointed brackets, also the brackets which mount the frame to the spoiler arnt the best of fits which I intend to sort when
making the composite jobbies
Here you can clearly see the gap as ive shown with the wax, a clear 2/3mm gap at the ends
Side plates ready for moulding
I have two options for the spoiler, main thing being the way in which I make the final parts, im warming towards having a glossy finish on either side
of most parts, as I make my composites by way of resin infusion it is impossible to do this will a single part to parts have to be divided into them
adhered together once cured. Here are a few moulds for different options
Superlight side plate
Normal size side plate glossy one side
What electric reverse and ring gear are you using ?
Thanks Mark
not sure which starter is on it at the moment but it is the wrong one as it rotates the wrong way, I was given a suitable starter with the car but
have yet to fit, not too sure if I will bother as I can't see it being needed.
What do you mean by ring gear?
The gear mounted on the diff it the starter engages with, looks like a small ring gear from an auto car maybe ?
ah right I see, no the quaife chain driven diff is toothed like a flywheel
I think this is going to be an interesting thread.............

Are you sure that the starter you are talking about isn't an electric reverse? Surely the one in the bike engine isn't going backwards?

That has to be for reversing the car not starting it.

well its been a good while since I updated, started stripping the body off ready for spraying, just in a dilemma in deciding if I should mould it this
winter or next, either way the body will be painted in the next 2 months. Made a small bit of progress with the spoiler, hinge mounts are moulded and
the adjustable sides have been moulded and produced, not trimmed them yet but you get the idea.
don't know whats up with the pic, will try and find a better one, anyway that's all for now, not much like I say
small update on my current progress, not really got much to show for it due to other commitments, I have however made some good progress on the
spoiler, I have trimmed the side panels and weighed them and im very happy with the results. I have also removed the front of the car so I can start
reshaping it to how I want, then I can spray it ready for moulding to create the composite replica.
The main aerofoil mould has come out a treat too
few pics for anyone interested:
half the mould done now time for the other side
Tooling gelcoat applied
on with the reinforcement
Battons cut ready for bracing
All trimmed and dee burred ready for breaking out
Polished and cleaned ready for production
Other skin mould ready for producing parts
here is the spoiler im replicating, currently it weighs 7kg, the composite one should be a tad less;-)
Old spoiler side brackets
New composite side brackets

Will upload some body work pics when ive made a decent bit of progress, all I have done so far is add the filler, should be able to find time to start
sanding and flatting towards the weekend hopefully.
Thanks for looking
Nice work!
What kind of core material did you use in the new wing endplates?
When you make the CF wings... how are you going to attach the top and bottom skins together?
The core is a custom fabric similar to lantor but this doesn't use as much resin making it lighter and stronger.
The two skins will be bonded together with cnc machined endplates from either aircraft grade billet or nylon.
made a bit more progress on the front of the car tonight, applied a fair bit of dolphin glaze and started shaping the wing vents and smoothing them
in, takes for ever though. Anyway nearly got one side to how I want it but wont know exactly till its guid coated but you get the idea of what im
aiming for.
before
dolphin glaze
started shaping
Should be able to get this side finished this weekend and crack on with the otherside, still struggling to find time though so this is going to take a
bit of time, hopefully will have a full carbon replacement before xmas.
Thanks for looking
