Seen lots of topics regarding the costs involved in dry sumping busa/r1 etc engines but is this needed on the road or only for track use.Would like to use one of these but will not spend 1k plus on a convertion, would rather spend it on tuning a blade motor. Quite a few broken gearbox stories coming to light, again is this just from track use?

If you are going for a Busa, then you can leave it wet sumped for the road (with a modded sump like Westfield supply), but if you are giving it serious abuse or taking it anywhere near a track then you'll need to dry sump it. Not too many R1's out there in comparison but they seem pretty hardy even on track, and you can probably get away with just a windage plate (baffle plate) across the top of the sump, and maybe some additional baffling in the sump itself.

Quite a few gearboxes have been going recently, and mainly on the track yes. I think a lot of it stems from people changing down too early and using the engine braking to slow the car down more, as opposed to doing a lot of braking first then changing down when the revs are lower and so less stress is put on the gearbox.
