Sorry if this is a slack question but do you have to have a cooling fan on the radiator, it's just in the way of my oil cooler??

As above yes but can you not put the fan on the other side of the rad ie not the oil cooler side and changed the fans direction of suck or blow etc ( ooh we misses that sounds rude )
I would say yes, unless you drive like a granddad in minus temperatures, have a very large rad and never get stuck in traffic. Perhaps a push fan could be fitted in front of the rad or move the oil cooler.

works, queuing...
Can't you fit the fan on the other side of the rad?
How big is your current fan?
I've got a small one knocking about in the garage which came off my R1.
I'm sure a small one is better than nothing at all....
