Hi guys.
I am thinking of upgrading the engine in the Stuart Taylor, I was going to turbo or supercharge it but by the time I spend that sort of cash it would
be cheaper to go with a new engine which I think would be more reliable and I can sell the old one to recoup some cash. It currently has a CBR900RR
engine in it. I would like to go with another light engine if possible and due to regulations in Oz it can be a maximum of 10% larger in capacity than
the one currently fitted so this I guess means the following engine options:
1) CBR1000
2) ZX10
3) R1
4) GSXR1000
Does anyone know where I can find the weights for these engines? Also what are the pro's and cons of each for gearbox and general reliability?
Will be looking at options from around 2008 onwards.
The CBR1000 is the engine of choice, light, bhp figures are accurate and reliable. A quick chat to AB at AB Performance and he'll sort you out
with one as well as give you all the info you need, they can run with bike ECU with some mods...buzaz box, and need a billet sump if your pressing on.
Anyway he'll tell you everything.
It's the choice I have made, over the R1 which is another good choice no need for ds and good power just a few bhp less which is negligible for
road use

IMO you're not going to get a hugely noticeable difference from swapping out a CBR900RR for any of those in your list. I reckon your money would
be better spent adding lightness to your ST.

The 08 CBR1000 looks good at only 62.5kgs and around 180HP from what I have read. The other engine I was thinking of was the 2011 ZX10R which is apparently 200HP although I'm not sure how much truth there is in that and how fragile the gearbox might be.

Have a chat the ab as even with ex, ECU etc you'll still be around 180ish with a good engine. Taking it further the price rockets into thousands.
He has dyno'd these engines to the death as this is what he used in his sabre, but he knows them very well non of the bullsh*t you read
online.
