ZX12r Oil Gallery Thread Size
Jamesc - 14/7/14 at 10:48 AM

Hello.

I've searched the forum and the internet, but cannot seem to find the answer!

I'm fitting and Accusump with a single line to the Oil Gallery, but would like to know the thread size to order fittings etc... can anyone help?

Also, what size pipe do people use for Accusump - AN-10?

Thanks,

James

Hello,

are you talking about the nut on the right side of the engine ( symetrical to the oil pressure sender) ?

If you talk of that one , it has the same thread that the oil pressure sender.

I also run a ZX12 engine and i am interested to see what your are doing.

On mine, fireblade there was a big bung on the end of the oil gallery that the low pressure switch fitted into, I pulled this out, tapped the bung to 1/2" BSP and had a hose made up to join with the accusump.

You want the connection to be as large a bore as possible, no point squirting oil down a little hole, mine will refill the engine in a few seconds and the accusump gets hot quickly so it's definitely pushing and pulling with engine revs.

Search my posts on this, I have been through this and have a Accusump installed in the main oil gallery. I had to have a custom fitting made up to get into that thread and convert to a large enough bore for the Accustom. Cost me £60. Also watch out removing the old bung - it was a nightmare to get out!

Removing the bung was meant to be the easy bit I may give it a go tonight..

I thought the bung was threaded to a 3/8" or 5/8" thread?

Thanks for your help.

Does anybody know what the size of the adapter is that the low pressure switch sits in? I'm not sure what thread type it is.

The sensor is 1/8npt AFAIK... Too small to run an Accusump through! use main oil gallery bung. Take it out (carefully), measure it (I cannot remember what size, and Iam away from home this week) and take it to your local hydraulic/hose specialist along with the fitting for your Accusump to have them make up a custom hose. They needed to weld two fitting together for my hose, as combination of sizes was not off the shelf.

Be aware that you should not screw into the oil gallery any deeper than the bung that came out, as otherwise you will block the gallery.

Edited to add this post giving the bung size.

Thanks for the reply.

That's the bung I'm thinking of, I think the threaded holes at the end of the main gallery are the same size, but the pressure switch fits in to an adapter piece. I did remove it and it measured just over 16mm as mentioned.

I think it may be 3/8" NPT, but I'll get it measured properly.

AFAIK the adapter (for the oil pressure sender) uses the same thread as the bung at the other end (5/8" ~ 16m) that you will use for your Accusump.
