Podering on switching my Pinto for a Fireblade.
Anyone know what's involved?
Presumably it's just a case of engine, cradle, loom, prop and gear change? Is it really that easy?
Budget? £1k for above????

You'll need to sort out a clutch cable/ pedal arrangement, you'll need to regulate the fuel pump, or replace it with a bike one. Your
electrics will need a fair amount of reworking - getting clocks to work and so on.
Your cooling system might need work to get hoses to fit etc.
I'd also look at putting an extra brace across the engine bay.
No doubt I've missed a lot.
I reckon it'd be quite a bit of work.
750 for motor 150 for 4 in to 1 60 for cradle
100 for bec 2 prop adapter 100 for mod weld balance of prop. 60 for rad pipes 35 for bike fuel pump. fluids ect off set by the selling off of
your old lump to the next lucky soul.
So it may be better to sell my Avon first and then build a Fireblade Fury/Phoenix as a new project?
Probally the best way. I wasnt totally commited so it wasnt to hard to change tack. But it still involved new props and center bearing mounts ect clocks will change as well (rev counter ) forgot gear change assemb 60 quid or 25 to make it your self. new project me thinks
We have done such a conversion and your looking closer to 1.5k – 2k depending on spec and how much you wana do yourself.
To give you an idea (not a plug honest), I will selling a fireblade kit soon, as im upgrading to a busa, but this still wont have everything you’ll
need (keeping prop) and I intend to sell that for around you starting budget, then you got to get some clocks (im keeping my SPA ones) and a gear
change, and sort out a reverse, (or push lol) so budget on 1.5k and its something to think about

i think it could be done for a grand myself. the engines go for as little as 300 spondoolies sometimes. that leaves a lot of leeway for other gubbins. Also, id skip the reverse. money and effort, easier just to push such a light car.
If you can get an engine for #300 then yes - 1k is reasonable. However, engines at these prices are now really thin on the ground. Most people budget around 1k for the engine - that's a big difference.

Probably worth asking yourself the following key questions:
1) Would your current car compromised as a BEC (e.g too heavy)
2) What would be in the impact on the resale value of your current car - will the value go up or down?
Having seen your car, I'd say (1) isn't a problem. However I don't know enough about Avons to answer (2)

Engine fits with room for a spare wheel if you want. The chassis is light anyway.

don't forget to budget for some new side panels, as exhaust will exit on nearside as opposed to offside.
and probably a new tranny tunnel top too because you will need to cut a slot rather than a hole for the gear stick.
Having said that. I dont think you could do it for under £1k I paid:
Engine and bits £750
Exhaust + mods £320
Mod air box £ 40
Material for cradle £ 40
Propshaft £184
Change road springs £ 20
Clutch cable £ 28
Sump mod £ 30
Oil £ 45
Clutch and springs £ 60
Other cables etc £ 40
Total £1557
That doesnt include for mods to side panel, tunnel, centre bearing chassis mods, Gear change mechanism. hoses etc etc.
Second thoughts sell it and start again!!!!!
And think about adding a Dynojet kit (£90) - and an hour on a rolling road to get it set up properly.......
Or just buy mine - built for the job.......
