MK R1 sump baffle
Phil_1471 - 24/4/16 at 07:56 AM

Morning All,

Does anybody have any pictures of an MK sportscars R1 4xv baffle fitted?
I'm in the middle of doing mine and just want to check I'm on the right track..

Did any of you tap the block? (Circled in red)
Did you cut out for the oil level switch? (Circled in green)

Help please

Phil

Is your oil level switch wired in?

Most people don't wire them in then remove them when fitting in a car.

I cut my baffle plate though as I wanted to retain the oil level switch.

I didn't bother drilling and tapping the two points you are on about for fixing though,as imo the baffle plate is held in place well enough.

Yes, still have the standard oil level switch. It looks pretty flimsy that side with no mounting points? How long have you been running yours?

Mines a 5vy but similar. I retained the oil level switch (though put a momentary test button on it in the end as it tends to come on at high revs). There was a hole for it but needed to be opened up a bit. I drilled and tapped to secure the smaller bit (top right in your picture) as I'd read some reports of that bit snapping off (though I think that was some cheap steel ebay baffles).

Looks like I need to cut out quite a bit, the sump doesn't fit back on even with the oil switch out :-/
Is there only 1 sump pan type on the 4xv?

That's strange.

If you remove the oil level switch I would be inclined to tap atleast the one mounting point, with the oil level switch still fitted and a nice tight hole cut in the baffle plate that piece your saying looks flimsy can't go anywhere.

Are you sure the water pump drain pipe is going in properly and not stopping the sump going up into place?

Also have you got new O rings for the water pump drain pipe?

It's highly recommended you get new ones,as they are a common leak point once the sump has been removed and refitted.

Yeah the drain pipe is out, have a load of o rings so will chuck couple of new ones on to be safe.
The other thing I was concerned over was the fact that the oil loop pipe won't be pushed all the way in as it now has the baffle thickness.....?

They all fit like that from what I've seen, mines ok,my m8's had two R1 powered cars and fitted both of them with a plate with no issues

Sound, I will just cut out as tight as I can to the mount for the oil sensor and drill/tap that other 'mount point' can't see I can do much better than that.

Finally got it to fit.....
