I'm doing a spot of idle next project daydreaming and I've got the idea of making a mid engined single seat BEC. I like the challenge of keeping it to 400kg. I've looked at a few different engines but nothing's quite right. Then a bike friend of mine suggested a V twin. What do 1000cc V twins typically weigh? Back in the day I recall my R1 4XV weighed in at 60kg dead, though I don't recall if this included the carbs or not. Do any of you have secret V twin knowledge squirreled away?
No idea on weight but the sdr v-storm used the aprilia rsvr Rotax's v twin, 140hp and comes with a dry sump.
According to this, rotax v990 aprilia engine is 67kg dry weight, so no lighter.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity to use an Engine I think would be perfect. Now they have ben on the market a few years they are in breakers yards
now on crashed bikes.
Honda's VFR1200 V4 DCT
Compact V4
1200cc
170bhp out of the box
Bags of torque but cant remember the numbers.
The DCT refers to Dual Clutch Transmission which is the same thing in modern flappy paddle supercars. So you get a 6 speed sequential automatic that
can run in three modes, Full auto, Sports auto or manual with buttons to change up or down all with no clutch pedal.
Electronics already has traction control and auto blip on the down shifts.
Comes with either shaft drive on the Crosstourer like I have or Chain drive for the sports tourer.

Wonder what hammer the DCT system could handle once it was driving car width tyres etc?
I'm building a mid-engine V-twin. Only at early stages. Engine is 2006 Honda VTR1000F. I think the engine is about 85kg. I can just lift it.
This is not particularly light and a 900cc 4-cyl weighs about the same and has more power. BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE THE SOUND !! Or the torque.
The V-twin is dimensionally a big motor. Sitting along side it you can't see over the air box. The sump is deep and narrow so I'm assuming
no problems from oil surge in corners.

edit : This site says the VTF1000F engine weighs just 74.2 kg. Has other engine weights too.
