Would a BEC with a straight through race can and airbox normally be less than 105dB(A) static?
Airboxes dont tend to make much difference on static noise, they are better at keeping the drive-by noise down as most induction noise comes from when
the engine is under full load (which obviously it isnt when doing the static test).
Obviously it varies from can to can but Ive seen standard R1 cans (which are pretty quiet compared to most) on blade / R1 cars record anything from 98
to 103db so I doubt a race can would be much below 105, if at all. Dont forget that any markings on them for db rating is irrelevent as the tests they
use to record those for road purposes measures the volume a lot further away and under different conditions.
