CBR1000
zilspeed - 22/1/05 at 10:05 AM

Just bought a CBR1000 engine.

It could be a lump of junk, but even if I have to break it or sell it for spares, I think I did ok. The starter, alternator and carbs have to be worth this alone...
CBR1000 engine from good ol' ebay

£62!!!

Wow - what a bargain!!!

Like you say - you could probably break it and make more than that!!!

Zil,

Give me the engine number and i will tell you what year and model it is.

Shame you didnt keep your first one eh!

Well shame for you anyway

zilspeed - 22/1/05 at 10:16 AM

As i said at the time Col - on that sad day when you took all my toys away - "it'll come round again"

Life and it's interesting phases...

P.S. Will pass on the engine number as and when I get it.

Oh, and it looks as if my xflow setup will now be for sale...

Hey - I've got a few rivets to put in....

zilboy has been a busy boy on ebay, hasn't he....

Want to come to a riveting party down at my house ?
I'm still wondering how many it will take to do the trailer -ach well, at least I've got some clecos to make it a bit easier....

Lotusmark2 - 23/1/05 at 06:56 AM

Well done Zil, I had my eye on that motor but I forgot to set my bidding software

subk2002 - 23/1/05 at 11:44 AM

£62 Bargain Well done John

So how you going to get it up from devon?

Drew

zilspeed - 23/1/05 at 12:38 PM

Well Drew....

Best option so far is www.postvan.com who will move a pallet up to 150kg for £69.95 + vat which is £82
Not too terrible. That would make an all up price of £144 quid - delivered to the door.
Obviously not an R1, but I am poor

zilspeed - 23/1/05 at 01:13 PM

Aye he is that.

Just found out that www.parcel2go.com offer a pallet service to joe public as well. Designed around ebay - it asks you for your ebay user ID.
£55 + Vat - £64.62

I don't see it getting any better than that

subk2002 - 23/1/05 at 07:46 PM

Try contacting colibriman he might be able to help[

Kissy - 24/1/05 at 01:21 PM

Nice One
Good choice my man! What ancillaries did you get? Fingers x'ed you got the water manifolds from each side of the engine.
If it's a fairly late model (flat slides) I may be able to help you out - I'm putting my CBR1000FP on to F/Injection this year and will be letting go of carbs and ECU.
Make sure the carbs you are given match the engine. It may transpire your engine is a stolen recovered (mine was), and has no 'proper' number. Let me know if I can be of any help.
p.s. have a clutch master cylinder for a CBR, free to good home.

locoboy - 24/1/05 at 01:48 PM

Kissy you have U2U ref clutch cylinder.

You know, I haven't a clue what I'm getting apart from a fully dressed engine and carbs. Anything else - loom, CDI, reg, would be a pleasant surprise.

I will definitely take you up on your offer of carbs and ECU when the time comes.
That's if Col hasn't got in first

locoboy - 25/1/05 at 12:54 PM

Zil,

I have carbs and ECU/CDI already with mine, i have however nabbed the clutch master cylinder though

Not sure how i can convert it into a foot operated jobbie yet

(yes suggestions would be appreciated!)

tks - 25/1/05 at 01:03 PM

just also get the mastercilinder from the bike

and mount a pushrod between the piece and your pedal...

locoboy - 25/1/05 at 01:09 PM

I will be getting from kissy the bar mounted lever operated clutch master cylinder and i already have the engine mounted slave cylinder.

relatively little force is required to operate the clutch by hand not to mention the short pushrod travel. If you were to convert it into a foor pedal hardly any pressure would be required (hard to control) especially with a long lever (pedal) resulting in a very very sensitive clutch dont you think?

Kissy - 25/1/05 at 07:47 PM

What some have done is to fit a 'handlebar' to carry the clutch (bit dodgy if you ask me) but looks the biz, esp. with all the bike switchgear. It will be easy to mount the cylinder on a strategically welded bit of tube (1"/1.125" dia???) and have either a cable or ball-jointed link (may have just what you need in my box-a-tricks). I did this type of thing years ago with the brakes on a YZ250 engined kart, worked perfectly. Bonus of using the bike m/c is you get the right ratio assuming you get the pedal ratio correct. One thing, use a firkin good return spring to load the pedal, my clutch has little travel, and is really light (legs are a tad stronger than knuckle grips - except for the right knuckle of C******m drivers). I've mentally put the ECU & carbs aside for you!

zilspeed - 25/1/05 at 10:05 PM

Marvellous - I'll hold you to that
