Bike Engines 4 an Indy?

Ive got a Vauxhall 1400cc in my Indy at the moment and want to go bike engined - any experience of what will fit and be the cheapest!! . I was considering a ZX9R or CBR1000 ( diff is 3.62 on 13" wheels) - anybody any idea's!!!

Zx9R and GSXR1100 are cheaper than blades and stick out a bit more power and have smoother gear changes. I got the ZX9R for £515 including the bike exhaust. Needed to get a rectifyer and couple of sensors. All in cost £615. Try putting an add on findit.co.uk. I had loads of replys from people saying they had engines from £400 upwards

With a 3.62 diff and 13" wheels, you'll be very revvy and short of top end speed as both the ZX9 and the CBR1000 engine are low geared overall compared to a 'blade or most other engines. See the wheel size thread for a spreadsheet to work it out, but with your diff and wheels (assuming 185/60) a ZX9 engine'd car will do 10mph less top end compared to a blade, so will be revving that much more. However you can always get hold of a 3.38 diff to help matters for very little money.

ZX9s and CBR1000s do seem to be cheaper than 'blades at the moment, but bear in mind that the CBR is quite a heavy lump compared to the other two, around 25kgs more than a 'blade if ultra-light weight is your thing.

Thanks for the responses - Should I be looking for any particular year of manufacture of ZX9R - can I use the tacho and what other bits should I make sure I get??.

Get the newest and verified lowest mileage you can from the most reputable source.

Make sure you get all the electrics including rectifier and ECU box. Airbox as well if you want to use/modify it. Exhaust manifold if possible as they can be modified. If you can get the clocks as well you'll only need a 'yellow box (£60?)' to make the speedo work.

Get the mounting bolts as well if you can, I just had to spend out £15 to get replacements.

I paid £850 (no vat) for a 1999 ZX9RC engine with 8k miles on clock (which I have) for a reputably reputable (!!) source.
