Hayabusa Westfield Sump Clearance
Parkstar - 15/12/20 at 09:38 AM

Hi everyone,

I'm in the early stages of converting a widebody westfield chassis to run a Gen 2 Hayabusa engine with SBD dry sump system, and I'm hoping someone can give me a steer with regard to the height of the engine within the chassis to fit under a V8 bonnet, and with minimal sump sticking out the bottom of the chassis.

Has anyone got a similar setup? Does your sump stick out below the chassis rails? If so by how much?

Thanks in advance!

Hi.
Welcome to the mad house .

Most sumps end up below the chassis. But keeping it to minimum is a must.
Can you not dry fit your engine in place to workout if the bonnet will fit . I sat my zx10r engine on blocks and just kept packing up until I achieved maximum height.

Thanks!

You're right, getting it as high as possible without fouling the bonnet is the goal. I'm still trying to source a V8 style bonnet with the scoop to give it some extra height and ventilation so just trying to get an idea of what others have done in the meantime.

Blocks under the engine is a good idea, I'll definitely steal that idea!

Have still got the original bonnet. Can't imagine much difference in height except for the scoop.

yep got the original bonnet still.

I guess if it will clear that bonnet then it'll definitely clear the V8 one, its quite a tall engine though so i suspect the extra height of the scoop will be needed to get the sump off the floor

Don't have any experience of the busa.
My zx10r sump is around 45mm below the chassis and I need to get it shortened before it's on the road. If any still sticks out I will fix some skid blocks to the chassis to avoid damaging the sump.
