Hi all,
I,m considering ditching my intentions of going with Pinto power in my Avon (rather late in the day as I've now got everything to install the engine!) and going for a Fireblade engine I've been offered for £450 which, I believe, is a pretty good price? (though unable to view as its t'other end of country from me!)
Its apparently from a '97 blade (done 14k miles) and comes complete with carbs, coils CDI, exhaust but is missing the wiring loom.
A couple of questions:
Does this particular engine (presumably RRV?) use an ECU and if so, would it be part of the missing loom?
Any ideas how much the loom would be (secondhand) and where I could source one from?
I've heard that some models need the original clocks because of some sort of security/immobiliser thats built in? and does this apply to this particular year engine?

That is a very good price even without the loom, I'm sure you will find a loom somewhere, if it includes the CDI unit that is the ECU. Loom is not going to be more than £100 at the most and someone on here may even have one you can buy, most blade engines sell for at least £1000 so if it was me I'd have it!!!!

Not sure about the immobiliserclocks but someone else could probably answer and I don't think it's an issue.

Just need to check that the engine is ok so any history is good and make sure the engine number is ok.

No immobiliser on the 97 loom, there's a crude attempt on the 98 and 99 loom but thats just a resistor basically, so is easily bypassed.
I think virtually any carbed blade loom should work OK on your engine although Id make sure you get the correct year of CDi as the early 893s are probably mapped differently and the 98/99 engines have 3D mapping with a throttle position sensor on the carbs.

Its a very good price.
Just remember as with anything, if it seems to good to be true it probably is!
As shortie says, Chec for a good engine number, you`ll need it for SVA.
Also check for broken engine mounts, specially if its been anywhere other than a bike, then ask about gearbox and clutch too. None of these are impossible to sort, but a bit of a pain.

Just re-read this and we all previously missed the fact that you said you get the CDi as part of the package.
ECU = CDi!
If so then all you need is the loom and yes its a good price.
