Just got the FZR engine andrealised just how far to the back (Offside as installed in the car) of the engine the drive is. The engine is basically going to be over the near side of the car and hence weigh the car out of balance by a mile.

SO, how about putting it in the back (adjusting the seat backs forward and changing the location of the pedals) and fittingit how it sits in the bike with a chain drive.

Now a few worries. Chains are a bitch and need checking regularly. What the bugger would I do for the drive chafts as I could actually do without a diff couldn't I? Hence a solid rear axle and a cog welded on / bolted to a flange to give me drive - is this doable within reason? Could I just weld the two shafts from the sierra together or could I stii sort a way of keeping them seperate so I have the option of IRS still?

Alternatively, does anyone do a Right angle direction changer for drive shafts then I could mount it the normal bike way and take the prop adaptor out the side and redirect to the front/rear as needed.

With your engine on the left and you on the right you should just about balance each other out. With the axle behind you as well and the front wishbones and steering fitted you will not be far from perfect. Don't overthink it. The engine probably weighs less than you anyway.

I can't believe I didn't think of the fact that my fat arse would be on the other side of the car.

What happens when there are two adults in the car though? Wouldn't the car be overweighted on the nearside and if so how would it affect handling?

in a word, well more than 1 word, " all will be fine" most becs have there engine that far over to the left they all but touch the top chassis rail, its not as heavy as a car engine remember.

Why not cram a load of ballast on the right hand side to balance things out Sorted.
