If i were to put a blackbird engine in an MK indy would it fit in ok (ie with standard bonnet and sump clearing ground ok) plus a work mate has told
me that a blackbird engine would be no good
in a car thats used on track.Howerver most of my use will be on the road is it ok to go ahead with the blackbird option.

I dont know if anyone on here is running a blackbird engine for road use only.
I know for road/track use you would be strongly advised to fit a dry sump kit because its expensive to replace if it goes pop!
As for it fitting in ok im not sure.
Ive got a bird engine but its mounted same way as in a bike, personaly id'e be weary of fitting one in a 7 without some major work on the sump,
an accusump or dry sump, (i use an accusump) I know its been done by some without problems but plenty of people have had probs with the bird fitted in
the front of a 7 and turned 90* like all front engined BECs do, they are fussy regards oil pick up when fiited into a car this way.
you'd have to chop the sump, do air box mods or both to get it under the bonnet too, but thats true of most BECs.
Ive got a blackbird injection engine in my indy. Its a great car for both road and track.
It is dry sumped and yes the dry sump kit did cost a bit when I got it, but with regard to it being expensive to replace if it breaks, i dont think
its that bad as the only thing that actually moves/can break is the scavenge pump. Ive had no oil pick up probs since ive had a dry sump. Plus
having a dry sump kit is better than knocking out the no. 3 big end! And my dry sump is flush with the bottom of chassis giving me excelent ground
clearance.
Airbox. I use the standard airbox but it des poke through the bonnet, you could easily modify it r fit a foam filter to fit it under the bonnet.
There arent that many other engines that could be used in place of the blackbird as the busa costs wice the price, zx9/blades lack the grunt. zx12
may be an alternative but dont know much about them.

i think he meant if you dont protect it with a dry sump its "expensive" to replace a blown engine.

Snoopy, has the engine got the Std sprocket with it or do you have the one from Donnington lying around ? I could do with a std sprocket again now as
i'm sure it will pull it now the engines on form, its zipping up too limiter in top, fine for short circuits but may as well have another 10mph
on the longer tracks.
