Got my wheels sorted, now im pondering what tires to use?

As she is going to be a Sunny sunday queen plus the odd trackday i was looking at Toyo R888's, but price is a issue and not sure what they would be like in the wet if i ran into bad weather.

Yoko A539 was my next as i have used these on my Day vehicle to good use and they have outlasted and out performed Bridgestone S02's and Pirreli 6000's in the wet and dry.

Got any personal experience / views on the best allround 195 50 15 tire?

Thought about Toyo Proxes T1-R or T1-S??

I run r888 but in 17",they are very poor in the wet,and they are a bit when cold,if you plan to do a lot of track days,and don't go out when its raining,they are great,as hellfire says the toyo T1 s is a good allrounded,as is the 539 yoko's,and both in 195/50/15 are as cheap as chips.
PS Did spot some 185/55/15 kumho track day tyres (road legal like r888) with about 50% off ,at camskill tyres & performance 01946 512202,they are £45 each and free postage,they have a webb site,I just got the last four 205/40/17 to try in a soft compound

i was looking at Toyo R888's, but price is a issue

Has anyone had any track experience of directly comparing the Toyo R888 with Yoko 32s/48s or ACB10s?

I've heard some very good things about the list 1B Kumhos if you get a very soft compound - some have said they're a match for softish ACB10s - a bold claim indeed!!!. I've no 1st hand or reliable 2nd hand experience on them though.
As far as A032, A048, and ACB10s go, they come in various compounds which makes a big difference.
ACB10s in the A24 compound are about the grippiest road legal tyre you'll get but will not last long - 1000 to 2000 miles and may not take track days too well. They also tend to tramline and can be a bit dodgy in the wet
A048s are M compound (they may have more compounds now) which is meant to be between the A032's S (soft) and SS (super soft) but they take longer to heat up so don't work so well as a sprint tyre - or so people say. About 4000 miles is the most you'll get out of 48s. As a road tyre, I'd put my money on 48s rather than 32s, especially as the 32s are apparently worse in the wet.
Of this bunch, I've only got 1st hand experience of A048s and they are very grippy indeed - miles better than Toyo Proxies or A539s. The 48s are even surprisingly good in the wet - as long as there's no standing water that is.

A few people have been going on about the new Toyos - I'd be very interested in some first hand experience too......

Cheers Adam, yeh I used to run S compond 32's but switched to 2nd hand Formula Ford compound ACB10s as they were cheap and were more fun to push to their limits as they break away a lot more smoothly, on my car at least. Im probably going to switch to 48's this summer though as the ACB10s lose a lot of their grip after relatively few heat cycles, which isnt ideal for a lasting trackday tyre when you do 6-8 sessions a day. As an example, we did a "timing allowed" trackday at Anglesea last year, and at lunchtime switched from some fairly worn but useable rears, to some with a few mm tread on, and immediately gained 2.5s a lap!

Does anyone know where I can get some cheep avon acb10's in a soft compound?

If they are only for the track and you don't mind them being slightly past their best you can usually pick up second hand formula ford ACB10s for about £15-20 a tyre, either speak to the Avon lorry at the race track (when their boss isnt around so it becomes tea money ), or ask around the Motorsport tyre suppliers. I know Jonny at Bookatrack had quite a few in the back of his lorry a while ago, so he may still have some.
Ive used several sets like this any they are as grippy as Yoko 48s etc until they get more worn and then they tend to harden up a fair bit
