Gents:
Does anyone know if bike gauges (specifically the fireblade) receive instructions from the ECU?? I've looked at a few wire diagrams and it seems
they might...
Alternatively, do they receive information from the different sensors (ie. water temp) and pass the information on to the gauge cluster unmolested by
the ECU?
I have the 919cc Blade but would prefer the 929 gauges. If the 929 gauges have processers built in to control things like how numbers display, etc. it
would seem this is possible to use. Just connect the oil temp sensor to the cluster and get them to chat. I realize it may be a bit more difficult
than, but what would I need to figure out how to get the two bits to talk?
Of course the safer way is to use the 919 cluster, but the 929 bit is much nicer--nicer than the Mychron Moto (option two).

Hi Chris
Im not 100% sure but I reckon at least some of the info goes via the CDi, for example it probably uses things like water temperature etc to determine
the ignition map, and obviously wants to know RPM. whether the info going in is the same as that coming out Im not sure, if so obviously you could
still use the signal to power a different gauge assuming the signals were the same (bear in mind the 929 was injected so will have totally different
CDi etc).
As for auxilliary stuff like the indicators, they definitely dont on the 919 as I spliced into those and used the 919 clocks to show me I had my
indicators on, even though I'd removed the lighting side of the blade loom and made my own up

I agree that the CDI must use the info from the various sensors, but it would be interesting to find out if it uses the info, then just passes it
along to the gauges cluster. Of course that would mean that it would work.
My understanding is that the 919 is very similar mechanically to the 929. Obviously the displacement was bumped and they made the switch to fuel
injection...who knows, perhaps it will work. The 954 seems like it is much too different to have a go.
I like that the clocks have a big analog tacho and the digital readout. This is something that the Mychron does not have. To me, that is a big
compromise for the money spent.
Any idea how one would go about determining if the information sent from the sensors is the same information that gets sent to the cluster?
On a different note, I forgot to check an eBay bidding for some 919 clocks. They were called 'stunt' because all the tabs were broken
off--thus they would have been zip-tied to the bike. The selling price: $1. Unbelievable, I know. For $1, I could have made allowances...

I guess the simplest way would be to get someone to rig up an oscillosocpe or something to the relevent pins to see what comes out. Im not really up
on my electronics though Im afraid, so Im not too sure, maybe worth an ask on the Yahoo BEC
List though.
