is nobody using the goldwing or bmw K series engines 'cos they are too heavy and not powerful enough?

barrie sharp - 5/4/05 at 10:55 AM

and what about the Yamaha V Max engine 1200cc 150bhp.?

dads7 - 5/4/05 at 11:01 AM

hadn't thought of that aren't they twins? 'cos I am so tight I don't want to pay the earth for an engine

locoboy - 5/4/05 at 11:16 AM

V Max turns the wrong way for a standard sierra dif

dads7 - 5/4/05 at 11:24 AM

so it basically it's got to be jap superbike engine and by the looks of it a blade is the price range i'm looking at....... unless I build a 3 wheeler

adampage - 5/4/05 at 11:24 AM

I think the BMW's turn the right way, and they are used in some motorsport (e.g. the ADR1000 uses the K100 engine.

I believe it is a bit heavy, and only the most recent ones have > 120bhp.

I think someone tried a BMW boxer engine, but one cylinder was poking out of the body.

I also think somebody built a MK with a goldwing engine, but again I imagine it would be more like a car engine - not so revvy, heavier, etc.

The Pan European 1100 v4 has been used (in my car!) and is fine, if a bit heavy and not the most powerful. Sounds pretty good though!

Adam.

what about the engine from a kawasaki vn2000

Model Year 2005
Engine type Liquid-cooled, 4-stroke V-Twin
Displacement 2,053 cm³
Compression ratio 9.5:1
Maximum power 76 kW {103 PS}/ 4,800 rpm
Maximum torque 177 N·m {130.5 lb ft}/ 3,200 rpm

now that would sound nice a 2.0 v twin

I think the Grinnell Scorpion uses K Series BMW engines. They have blistering performance and don't weigh that much less than a Seven.

I think they use the whole unit slung out the back using the original shaft drive.

adampage - 5/4/05 at 11:44 AM

Now that's a BIG twin!

However, the offset from the drive output to the far end of the engine looks massive, so half of it would be hanging out of the car in mid air!

Also check out the weights of the bikes and you can estimate the weights of the engines - ie bloomin heavy!

If you want a 120kg+ engine that only revs to 7k you might as well just put in a car engine

rayward - 5/4/05 at 03:22 PM

migth be way off here, but if the engine turns the wrong way, can't you just turn the diff over????

Andy W - 5/4/05 at 06:01 PM

I think that's what MK did with the shaft drive fj motor, I'm sure that turned the wrong way. Not sure how the diff liked it though.

cheers lads lots for me to think about, think that ZX9R or a @blade are the ones for me

tks - 8/4/05 at 11:34 PM

you can also go the VFR800 route..

its light v4 has a bit of HP and it doens't consume much..and is injection..

think they are 110BHP..soow..

soow gues who is building one to??

The only fu**** this advantage is the output flange place..
