Exhaust problems still

To all you out there with blade engines or other bike engines, how are you getting the noise down for track days? What cans are you using?
Have repacked MK one and even with wire wool stuffed up still topping 102Db
Have trackday booked for Monday, could do with some help

You may have to baffle it down using a restrictor of some sort up the outlet. It's difficult for the MK one to pass the 98Db in standard form.

Standard bike cans are a good cheap way to get the noise down, i just bought an R1 can off ebay for £30 Specially for trackdays.
If your running foam filters it may be an idea
to put some form of sound deadening on the underside of the bonnet, as induction roar can be a problem.

Is it static or driveby you are struggling with, or both? I had the ST manifold / can on my blade which looks a very similar design to the MK one, and I never really got it down below 102db static. To reduce the static noise much more you'll need to get a huge can, the bigger the better (something like 7x30" ) or buy something that's more restrictive like an R1 can. The R1 route is cheaper, the only problem is that you'll probably need to commit to it and use it all the time as the carbs will probably need rejetting to make it run properly (so might lose a bit of power overall).

Using noise deadening on the bonnet or using an airbox is also a good method but it helps drive-by noise much more than the static test I think, with the static test the engine is unloaded and the microhone is pointing straight at the exhaust outlet so most of the noise the test will "see" is from the exhaust Id think, not from induction.

You'll need to get it modded too don't forget, it will probably need a 90 degree bend at the outlet to stop it melting your rear arch, and also might need an inlet pipe to suit your size of manifold.

If you want a quick and easy fix for Monday then make sure you get one of the older carbon cans rather than the newer anodised blue ones as they have titanium inlets so far less people will be able to weld it for you.
