Battery Wire Gauge
chrisf - 1/6/05 at 02:43 PM

Hi:

I need to pick up some battery wire at lunch today. What wire gauge should I specify? The only reason I ask is because I the blade starter relay seems kinda small, and I want to make sure whatever gauge wire I get is small enough to mate with a small connector on the relay.

Sorry if this makes little sense, but any help is appreciated.

i would guess that whatever gauge is currently used by the OEM should be fine. It may make sense to go up a gauge to allow for extended cranking should it be required.

HTH,
Darren.

I think the stuff Ive got is 25mm˛, seems about right and is the same thickness as the OEM stuff that was on the R1 starter relay. You can get 25mm˛ crimp on ends with 6mm holes so they should fit onto the blade relay no problems.

Many thanks gents. I just needed a baseline before I went into the shop. I live in NASCAR country and would have felt a bit dumb taking home an OTT cable.

By the way,has the post arrived yet Chris?

chrisf - 1/6/05 at 03:15 PM

No, it hasn't yet. I had a coworker receive a package from the UK in ten days, but that was a CD. Who knows? Surely I will have it in a couple weeks. Do you you remember when you posted it?

Anyone have any experience with post timeframes from the UK-US?

Hmm, 2 weeks ago yesterday. I sent it airmail too

chrisf - 1/6/05 at 03:32 PM

Wow, that does seem a bit lengthy. Can you track the package?

This is the second package that got lost (if indeed it is lost) in post. I wonder what is wrong...

Afraid not, it was bloomin expensive to track it
I guess it might get delayed in customs or something if they don't know what it is?

JoelP - 1/6/05 at 04:46 PM

well, sometimes customs object to people posting large bags of cheng, maybe they've confiscated it?! or sniffed it all themselves

ChrisGamlin - 1/6/05 at 07:24 PM

LOL, it was only a blade speedo sender, weighed about 50g!

chrisf - 1/6/05 at 07:37 PM

I'm sure it will turn up, probably by the 15th..at least I hope.

Thanks for all the help Chris.

You may not be able to obtain those special Honda connectors, so you may want to do a butt joint in the cable to keep it simple?
(I hope the butt bit translates to USA ok?)

Unfortunately, no! Now that you mention it, Honda does have a strange, flat connector. I planned on getting the regular bolt on kind then bending them at a 90 degree ange where they meet the relay. Bad idea?
