I am thinking of making a BEC Locost but am concerned that insurance may be sky high. How much can I expect to pay?
Age 23
Named driver since 17
No points or convictions
1 year ncb
Would be on limited miles
Currently paying £700 for a Renault 5 GT Turbo, (stupid money for a 15 year old car)
Rough estimates appreciated, higher or lower than the turbo?
Just want to know if a BEC is a viable option!
Cheers chaps
bear in mind, you will probably be 25 before its finished
should be much less than £700 though.
would say definately lower, just get a quote "pretending" your cars finished etc...
Footman James where cheapest for me.
Ray
im 22 and as far as i can remember, my quote was £400ish (when i was 21).anthing up to a 2L is the same price, and i dont have and ncb, but have been
driving for 5 years.

If it's bike engined you can nearly double it with Footman-James, but they still came out best. Me, 43, full-protected-NCB, no points, 1,500 miles, fairly good postcode, garaged, £198 fully comp.

The moment you tell them it's 998cc or whatever they'll ask if it's a BEC, they've got wise to that now. They have probably sussed that 130+bhp out of an engine/box that weighs diddly squit, and which goes in a car that is going to weigh diddly squit will mean a much quicker car.
I've just had a quote for an R1 engined VortX of £620 from MSM. Please tell me that this is far too high and that such-and-such will halve that price. By the way, I am over 30 and have asked for limited milage etc. etc.
try roadsure- did a good deal for me- 6 points and all...
mine was 104 pounds from osbournes,i live in a dodgy area and ive had a total loss claim on the last kit car i had
so didnt think it was too bad
I've paid £193 fully comp £150 excess
from Adrian Flux (no claims not an issue) 3000miles limited 32 yr old
Footman James quoted me £487
Bolton:- crime capitol of the north apparently.
I pay £660 for my RX-8

I got a quote for £1000 from Adrian Flux at 20 with 1 years no claims discount.
I thought that was quite low all things considered.
my 2004 893cc Megablade is insured with Osborne & Sons, they gave me 60% NCB introductory offer even when I didn't have any, I have 5k a year
mileage option, no alarm/ immobiliser was required, £250 excess all for £204 fully comp & to get it down even further say you want 1500mile
limit, your in a club, its self build & you want parts only not labour when making a claim.
I've just had a claim honoured after an off, no problems, would recommend them
