Made our first real start on the car last night. Fitted the loom to the engine in a cradle (water and fuel sytem all attached) to get it started and
to have a play. Engine turns over fine and all ignition lights are on (on instrument pod from bike). Pulled one of the plugs out and held it on the
casing to check for spark, but nothing! Messed with the side stand switch, checked in was in neutral, shorted the clutch lever out but still no spark.
I then thought i recalled someone saying that if you took a plug out to none of them would spark, not sure if i dreamt this? Couldn't try and start it
normally because we realised the fuel pump relay was missing?
Anyone help???
Had a reply from a couple of decent (not sure if they come here) chaps about this, apparently there is a 100ohm resistor in the ignition barrel, which i do not have. The grey wire needs a 12v feed with a 100ohm resitor connected. Going to try it tonight.
I'll be saving this post for when I come to do mine....did it fire up????
Not had time tonight, going to try it tomorrow
Description sent to me by Ben Marriot:-
"It sounds to me like you've missed the "security" resistor out. On the
switch that goes on the back of the key-barrel there is a 100 ohm resistor.
When the engine is on, this is connected between +12V and the grey wire
which goes all the way back to the ECU. So basically what you need is to
find a 12V source that comes on when the ignition's switched on and connect
the grey wire to it through a 100 ohm resistor.
If you want a 100 ohm resistor then if you send me your postal address I can
send you one (I have several lying around)
If you are actually using the keyswitch and ignition barrel from the bike
then this should already have said resistor in the contact block so the
above advice is probably not going to help."
