What is the pump/tube looking thing ontop of the engine (highlighted). My engine and others i've seen installed doesn't have it.

I still have one fitted to my engine, do not know for sure what it is but from memory I think it's some type of breather set up. If you need more info I can have a proper look tomorrow.

What model engine is yours?? I have a 1998 C1

I've got one on mine which I wont use, and others have assured me it's not needed. Macca is right I think, it's a re-breather system....

Mine also is a C1 (99/00,)

if it is not needed is it just a case of blocking off any out/inlets or does it need bypassing in anyway?

Looks like a wiper motor with black legs.

99/00 is a C2 isn't it?

Mine didn't come with it, and is already blocked off, with what looks like a factory fitted item.

Ones I've seen weren't even bloked off..

Found out that it is something to do with emmisions blah, blah, blah.......
I have also found the one off mine (in bits) in a pile of bits that came with the engine.

May use it to smoke pot though

Yeh - think your right, re-burns off unburnt fuel????
