Hi All,

Some of you may recall that I do an aluminium baffle plate for the R1. I have been requested to make some to the same design but in mild steel instead.

The main reason I've been asked to do this is that a couple of people have experienced metal fatigue in their aluminium plates. In one case a broken piece of ally caused enough damage to the engine to make it beyond economic repair. I hasten to add these were no plates that I had supplied.

So I am going ahead and will make some of these mild steel ones as an alternative. If I can get a couple more people interested I'll be able to supply them at £40 inc P+P.

They'll look the same as the one below

Im one of those thats asked Paul if he could make some steel ones, as some of you will remember my blade baffle basically fell to bits with fatigue cracks and also now what with JimG's R1 baffle problems that Paul mentions above Id rather be safe than sorry.

Chris, how thick was the aluminium on that baffle?

Not sure, approx 1-1.5mm at a guess, you wouldnt want it too much thicker because on the blade its sandwiched by the sump so will affect the sump height - therefore having an effect on the height of the oil pickup and PRV supports.

Can you do one for a blade like the one in Chris's pick?

Its something I may do in the future but right now I don't have the bandwidth to start working on a blade version - one problem being I don't have a engine to use as a template!

Pat's got my broken one above you could probably measure up if you do decide to make some, I cant imagine he'll be putting it back in the engine

i can laser the things in stainless
just send me the dwg or cad file or the old plate and i will take that job of you.

Offcourse only if progers agree that i do?

You are welcome to do it if you wish. I'm not in it to make much money, the fact is it costs quite alot to do a one off and it only gets to be significantly cheaper if you can do a decent batch of 20 or so.

Don't forget the postage costs :-)
