engine strength
Fog - 13/7/05 at 06:06 AM

Hi, i'm half-way done with the one-year information digging period, but I have not found an answer to this.
Since in my plans, i need to turbocharge the engine in the future, i need some info.

Bike engine bottom end strength?
witch to use?

Criterias: air-oil cooling, chain drive, 900+ ccm.

Thanks in advance.

I know it's not the engine you have in mind, but there is a company who have put a turbo'd Fireblade engine in a Mk2 Escort, which puts out 200bhp. I don't know whether it has a special steel crank or not.

I think you answered your own question when you said it must be air/oil cooled - GSX-R1100!

According to bikez.com i need an engine off '89...'91?
Before the power rating is smaller and afterwards the engine is liquid cooled?

How about a bonneville.

Bonne looks kind of small and weak.

Is the gsx-r1100 and gsx1100F engines the same?

I found one crashed gsx1100f with a cheap pricetag, will that do?

It's easier to buy a crashed bike and sell the rest, than to search for the missing parts for the aquired engine. At least here where I live.

Ah the mystical world of turbocharging!

I would say that you need to look for all the things you stated before, strength of bottom end and oil cooling take offs to make things easy but also the size of the clutch basket.

Some bikes seem to run smaller clutch baskets to save weight - go for the largest one you can - a worry with mine is that on and off boost the clutch might slip or wear very quickly at least.

Cheers

Geoff

Yes, clutch is a concern also.

All the engines that have been used in various racing classes tend to be water cooled, therefore there is a lot of fabricating and trial-and-error ahead.

At the end of month there will be a major drag here, so I'm gonna try to squeeze some info out of finnish participants who have turbocharged bikes.
