Diff Ratio
Lotusmark2 - 14/7/05 at 08:36 PM

Hi guys, what sort of diff ratio do I need to look at for my vtr 1000 chain drive.
Been looking at transit diffs but they are up around 4.55, is that any good or too high?
Or thinking about it does the diff ratio not matter as I am replacing the crown wheel with a sprocket????
Think the engine red lines about 9-9500
This stuff just confusses me.
Cheers
Mark

Seeing as you're going for chain drive, you wont actually be using a crown wheel and pinion will you? You'll have a chain driven gear directly mounted to what used to be the crown wheel of the diff and will loose the pinion gear completely, so your ratio will be entirely dependant on what sprockets you choose and the ratio of your donor diff will be irrelevent.

The more I thought about it the more I thought it was a dumb question, cheers for not laughing at me (must not drink a bottle of wine before trying to consider gearing)
Best Diffs to use (apart from mini)?
Cheers

Look for info on chain driven fiesta diffs, I've read about them being used and will probably be a bit stronger than the mini ones.
