Can anyone tell me how to test the switch on the rad that should provide '-' and start the fan?
Cheers

Unless you have reason to suspect it doesnt work, I wouldn't bother. Assume its good!
If you really want to test it, i'd clip your meter onto it, battery and bulb would do, then put it in a saucepan and bring it to the boil, see
when it switches on. Use a cooking thermometer to check temperature if you like?
If its a single connecter then its between connecter and body, if its 2 connectors then it will be across them.

Is the car getting bloody hot and the fan not coming on reason enough?
Is it rare for these to fail?

Cheers! Will try to get some static ones up later once the chrome has been cleaned!
Yeah, fan runs with a wire from an earth.
Has the fan EVER worked?
If its a single wire jobbie. it could be that you radiator isnt earthed?
I originally mounted mine on rubbers, insulated from the chassis, but with a 2 wire sensor its not a problem...

i think it was shortie who had a similar prob the other week turned out to be an air lock in the rad at the top were the sensor sits on an mk rad
tony
Yeah - it def' used to work. Rad is earthed so it must be the switch/sender.
Rad is original CBR one so no worries about air lock (switch is near bottom.)
Cheers
yep was me who had exactly the same problem.
I realised it was air in the top of the rad as I removed the switch and it was dry.
I fixed it by undoing the switch until it was just on the first thread and then fired the engine up and let it warm up until water started seeping out
the switch, then just tightened it up and now it works perfectly.
HTH,
Rich.
Hi All
Ok - Have car sat outside; bonnet and nose off.
Have replaced switch at cost of 50 quid....
and the fan still doesn't work!
Rad is earthed, the brass body of the switch has a good earth, but the switch doesn't turn the fan on! The blade connecter on the switch just
doesn't seem to earth!
Help!
TC
I got some cbr bits in the shed call me if you need it Lenny
Is the Rad from the bike that you are using in your car?
Sorry for jumping in on your thread, it's just that It is something I'm thinking about myself at the moment with mine.
