98 R1 clocks

Which wire on the 98 R1 clock is for the back light? According to haynes it is "blue" (bottom left hand corner) but this doesn't work. It's the only thing left to do on my dash now. I'd hoped to finish before it went dark.

Don't know specifics about R1 clocks but most have a common earth. Is this connected...?

The earth is connected yes. The bike loom and car loom are both connected to the battery so share a common earth.

The main beam warning lamp is connected to the car loom, as well as the indicator warning lamp and the back light. The main beam lamp works OK. I guess that I've got the wrong wire for the back light.

Hmmm.... I'll try to have a look in the Yamaha manual tonight. You say it's a '98?

yes, it's a 98.

Sorry, never got the chance to look last night. I'll try again tonight though....

Have you checked in Yamaha's service manual? Might be in there...

Yes, the feed is on the blue wire at the clocks. I take it that you don't have 12v present there? You should be switching the blue from a brown/red. Is the fuse supplying the brown/red ok?

This is why I used the R1 loom complete and extended and added to it where required....
