zx9r running a treat
MK9R - 20/1/03 at 08:29 AM

For those of you who read my other posts about getting the zx9 engine running correctly, i can now tell you that it is running perfectly. After all the arseing around with fuel/air mixtures, needle heights i found the problem was down to all 4 of the primary jets beeing bloked solid!! I took them out, soaked them in carb cleaner, then in acetone and then used a wire brush to poke down the jet to push the cr@p out. result - one perfect running engine!!

As a summary of what i have done to get the engine running properly i have done the following:-

1. Hot wired the Brown and white wire in the ignition switch plug and inserted a 100ohm resitor between the white (+12V) and the grey wire.

2. Hot wire clutch switch.

3. Totally clean out float chambers and all jets. You will not believe how much $hit is in there, especially if the engine has been lying around for a bit! I am going to fit a different fuel filter and a water seperator in the car.

4. Replaced main jets with TTS performance jets

5. Blocked the main pilot air jet with a match stick and epoxy.

6. Set pilot mixture screw to 2.5 turns out.

7. Fitted a TTS air filter

8. Carb breather pipe left open, and piped away from all hot items as fuel can pi$$ out if the float needles get stuck open.

9. Exhuast breather left open (pipes on top of cam cover)

The engine is now cleaned, sprayed with aluminium paint, except the cam cover, clutch plate cover, alternator cover, and water pump which are being preped to be sprayed metallic blue to match the intended bodywork. It looks the dogs knackers!!
