zx9r engine won't start
badding - 5/2/06 at 02:32 PM

Oke,

It turns over and has a spark
The fuel pump doesn't make any noise, when I connect it to the loom, it looks like it's dead, but when I connect it directly to the battery it makes a strange vibrating noise, where should I look first....

When I start it I connect the following
pins

Broun/white with red and black/red.

That's when it's running dry. It doesn't work till you press the starter on the bike loom. You can wire it to run as soon as the ignition is switched on if you take an ignition controlled live feed but it cuts out when the floats are full and comes in again when the level drops. Connect the brown/white to the red next to it, these are the stop switch connections. The black/red should only connect to red next to it to turn the starter over then disconnect when it is running.

Yes I understand that, but do I have too shorten any more wires than the 3 I did in the above picture?

Peteff - 5/2/06 at 05:28 PM

What connections have you made in your ignition switch block? I edited the post a bit. If the black and red is connected to red the starter should be turning all the time.

In the ignition switch I connected the brown white and grey wire and put a 100ohm resistor between the white and grey Rescued attachment CIMG0692.JPG

Have you got the side stand switch shorted out?, I think it's the green and white

Yes, sidestandswitch is taken care off

JoelP - 5/2/06 at 07:09 PM

if it cranks and sparks, the wiring is probably correct. Has it been fiddled with since it last ran? Id try it with a gravity fed fuel supply, to eliminate the pump. A few feet is easily enough id guess.

badding - 5/2/06 at 07:18 PM

I don't know, it has never run before, I bought the engine and carbs , loom complete.

I bought the other parts from ebay, now at this stage I have everything complete and I wanted to know if the engine was going to run, so I build a frame to test the engine.

The funny thing is when I had not taken care of the clutch switch , i could hear the fuel pump run,but the engine did nothing.
Now I have shortened the clutch switch, the engine runs and I have a spark, but the fuel pump does not deliver any pressure, so if anyone knows if there are any other pins that have to be connected, that would be pins on the LHS, RHS i guess....

Thats exactly what I did. I took out the fuel pump relay so as soon as I turn on the ignition the fuel pump comes to life and moments later stops.

Do you still have a fuse between the battery and the pump, when it comes to elecktrics I'm an absolute noob

JoelP - 5/2/06 at 09:48 PM

fuse is always a good idea

having said that, the ignition feed is fused anyway.

Thanks to every one, it runs and makes a hell off a sound, yeah baby...

I will see if I can post a short movie starting it...

so what was wrong?

badding - 15/2/06 at 09:59 PM

clutch switch was the problem , I,m working on my new website and will post every thing you'll have to do to let it run.
I'm now downloading some video editing software to work on the little movie I made about starting the engine, will post the link to my profile...

Clutch switch was also a problem on my motor ZX12-R.

I've fitted a switch on my clutch pedal so it's just like on the bike.

Also the Dutch importer said that i've you don't use the switch the engine is in safety mode.

and thats the reason i also didn't took risks

and also keep switching everything

the microprocessors now a days have suchs complex possibilities that you cant back engineeer en know what the engineeer thougt during the build.

Tks
