Superdream rectifier

Gents:

For those following, I think my rectifier is dead. Shortie suggested a Superdream rectifier. These are very rare in the US--at least as far as I can tell. While looking on the UK eBay, I noticed they are called CB 250s. Are these the same as a nighthawk? I found this recitfier on the US eBay. Is this the same as others are using?

Hi Chris,

The CB250F was known over here as the 'Superdream'.

It gained acclaimation for being the most reliable bike ever.

I'm sure it will fit.

Cheers

Murray

Looks just the same to me! Should be fine.

Here's a wiring diagram if it helps.

Hi Gents:

Sorry to bring this up again, but I received my R/R and it looks like I have more wiring than most. On the bottom side, I have the green, black, and Red/white. I don't quite understand where the black wire goes. Do I just wire it to a positive feed in the system, i.e., the gauge cluster?

On the top side is where I have my problems. It looks like I have two addional wires: 1 black one and 1 red one. Do your Superdream R/Rs have these two wires? If so, do you simply cap them off?

--Thanks, Chris

You can't attach multiple pictures to the same post.
Upload them to your photo archive and then use the [ img] tags that the archive gives you to put them into your post

Chris,

I will see if I can find a wiring diagram for the CB250F and try to work out what's what.

Rich.

Thanks Shortie! How's this? It all means nothing to me...

Chris,

Had a look at it and I reckon it could be done as follows:-

1st plug
----------
3 Yellows - to alternator yellows
Red - blank off
Black - blank off

2nd plug
-----------
Green - Earth
Red|White - Starter relay (redwhite)
Black - any live feed that is switched on by the ignition (i.e. gauge cluster as you suggest)

Please don't think I am an expert in any way but that's what I would try.

HTH,
Rich.

Gentlemen:

Thanks for the kind suggestions. I'll give Shortie's wiring a go this weekend and see how that works. Below is a picture of my current R/R mounting. Does this seem OK? It is raised from the ali panel about 1/2" and uses the fan to push air down upon it. Is this a good idea or do I need to mount it solidly to a 5mm ali block, then the panel?
