Off + On road Buggy - GSXR1100 powered
cloudy - 21/3/06 at 02:50 PM

Just the beginnings of my project log for anyone interested!

The design is completely from scratch - all designed in 3D Studio max. I have no experience in the car building field so my learning curve has been steep so far!

Specs so far:

GSXR 1100cc engine - 155ish hp
Sierra cosworth LSD diff undergoing chain conversion
Aiming for under 350kg's kerb weight

The final 3d design - time to get building!

My current method of tube notching

As you can see it's pretty small when rendered next up next to a 106!

one of the welds from my old arc welder!

parts layed out for size checks

and a render of the body over the beginnings of the chassis (with added air intake, and oil and water cooling ducts

More to come as it progresses!

Hoping to get this on the road at some point, so SVA tips that are obvious issues with my design would be welcomed!

Thanks,
James

looks cool, would suggest more triangulation if you want it to stay the same shape

yeah will add in afterwards as I can see the outline in front of me, I find it easier estimating forces that way

Don't let my son see this topic, he wants me to build a go kart with him, but I would want 1 just like yours !! oh what fun

Right, a subject close to my heart as you know!

This is meant constructively not nit pickingly (as people that know me will say, I am no nit picker!!!)

I would strongly recommend a "redesign" of your chassis in a few areas! There are a couple of areas where you are putting loads into tubes with no support, which is bad, but the worrying one is that your rollbar support does not feed into a triangulated section.

Basically put in the red tubes in the pic below and take out the blue ones, and you'll be nearer the mark.

good luck, looks a real hoot, somehting I would love to do if I only had the time!!!

thanks, yes I had spotted that roll bar problem, and i'll take those suggestions onboard

btw anyone got a full SVA manual in digital format? just want to check and make sure there's nothing i'm going to do that might make it unpassable

Hi,

I've been looking around for someone that sells an on-off road buggy with a decent engine for ages so I'm very interested in your project. It's the only thing I'd be tempted to sell my R1 Fury for. I'm more than happy to help where I can. I've also got an SVA manual in PDF format I can send to your email address.

U2U sent

Cheers

Russ
