Hello Guys,

We have a small "problem" with our R1 clutch, we can't get it released! we cleaned the clutchplates since they were a bit sticky and put everything back as it should, but whatever we do it just wont release, we made sure that the punch mark on the lever aligns with the marking on the cover.
What are we doing wrong????

Does the clutch arm move in and out or it just stays in?? Have you got a return spring fitted?

Is the mark aligned after the slack has been taken up? Shouldn't matter where it is really but there is almost a quarter turn of slack to be taken up before the clutch starts to move.

R1minimagic: Yes we have a return spring and the lever is moving and coming back.

Speed8: we aligned the markings and then put the cover back on and slide it over the internal lever and we do have a relative big turn of slack but we don't want to put to much pressure on it, we don't want to break it off course.
How much force do you have to put on it? can you do this by hand?

The lever should have a small amount of free play before the pullrod makes contact inside. You cant really move it by hand (unless you are really strong!) but if you use a large adjustable spanner on the arm you should be able to turn it and feel it springing back again. I am a bit confused what your problem is if the arm is moving in and out ok??

The mark should line up after the slack has been taken up, then it starts to pull on the clutch. I can't move it by hand just on the lever but I haven't tried with a big spanner. I'll try today maybe

Looks like the movement you give it isn't enough...

In fact i think that because of the cable the lever doesn't move backwards right guys?

in your setup/install i guess that the lever only would move a very small amount?

Sow what i think you need to do is simple.

Un tighten the lever rotate it some 60degrees retighten and move it to the same place it was before.

If you now pull the clutch, you already have done 60degrees + what the pedal does..

To be able to brake the clutch you should pass the part of declutch.

the mark dont matter on the clutch cover its just there to make sure the lever is in the right position for when the engine is in the motor bike,if youv had the clutch cover off your quite lucky to get it to line up first time,any way apart from the mark do as the others say and take the slack up and then move the arm with adjustable spanner and all will be cool,alot of people i know using the r1 engine move the arm around so that the cable runs along the rear of the engine making the clutch cable nice and small

Thanx guys it works, you really have to stay pretty cool when fiddling the cover on, but it works, we were also a bit to carefull with everything.

So he's now ready for his first track-day and i can't wait to give it a go.
