Remove the drive belt from the alternator if unsure, sould be ok for stort time just don't drive it with out the regulator /rectifier on it will fry your battery & blow bulbs ect

This isnt boat-anchor world you know There isnt a drive belt from the alternator as its on the end of the crank

Why do you want to turn it over out of interest?

I see, its a bike engine then !

The generator / alternator will probably be OK if electrically disconnected. At least it should be. The rest of the engine will be just fine but it will drain the battery.

Without the regulator fitted, you'll be runnin purely off the battery. There's no chance of blowing the bulbs. The alternator will be spinning and generating voltage but without any connections, there will be no current.

I wouldn't run it for any length of time without the regulator fitted but if you want to see if the engine works then you should be OK.
