POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD
Driving into work this morning I noticed a burning smell from the engine. Further investigation showed that the plug connecting the alternator to the
rectifier had caught fire. Fortunatley I had stopped before the fire had time to spread.
Checking the Kawasaki website I found out that all ZX12R's from 2000 to 2003 were supposed to have been recalled to have this problem sorted. Oil
from the alternator is forcing its way up the inside of the cables and collecting in the plug housing causing overheating and possibly a fire in the
plug.
As most BEC owners will probably not have a full history of there engine it is probably worth disconecting the plug to see if you have any oil in it
and fixing it before you have a fire on your hands.
